|I got my mfj-986 tuner from a friend and it needed a roller inductor cause it had been used for quite some time ....when i put the inductor in it now works just like a brand new one i have to replace the counter in it but other than that it is a great tuner and i would recomend it to all of my friends needing a tuner...|

|I was fortunate to be able to buy a very nice used MFJ-986. This has been a great tuner. My previous Tuner was an older Johnson Viking Matchbox, which works OK, but it's hard to find the 'tuned' spots for various antennas, and very little guidance in the manual of just how to make it work right.|
With the Differential-T and roller inductor, this box is the sweetest tuner in town. It is so easy to tune. (The manual gives 'start' locations from which to begin, and then from there it is very easy to do the rest). Once you find the spot, just log them down, and dial in the numbers for next time. (it will get you close ... you just need to 'touch it up' a bit from there).
On top of that it has antenna selectors for two different antenna outputs, effectively doubling your antenna connection capability, as well as a connection for an external dummy load, thereby freeing up an antenna switch position (which would have been previously used for the dummy load).
It has several other nice little features, which you can check out in the 'specs'. but if you're looking for a good competitive 3KW tuner this box is well worth consideration.
