|I bought this to use in my mobile as it met my requirements the competition just doesn't have. 1.) it would handle 200W with room to spare and 2.) it had a remote control panel option.--important for a mobile! |
When I first got it, I was not sure this was a keeper so I stuck it in the shack and used it a little to try it out. After having it in my shack with my TS-480HX for a couple months, I now know I should have gone this way a lot sooner. If you are still using a manual tuner, you have no idea what you are missing. I liked it so much, I had a hard time pulling it from the shack an putting it in my mobile when the time came! I just finished setting this up in my mobile with my other TS-480HX and the 993 remote control panel. The remote control is great and was THE MAIN REASON I bought this tuner over others. In fact, I liked this a lot at the base as I could stick the tuner up and out of the way on the shelf and just mount the tiny little remote next to the control head! GREAT FEATURE! In the mobile, the TS-480 body and the intellituner reside in the trunk out of site and out of mind (and unvisible to thieves). This is a great package. Together with my rig, and a couple hamsticks, It works fantastic. I also like being able to back up to a dipole/zepp thrown into a tree or my tower/the clubs tower and tune up as needed.
AND in case you wondered, they do make radio interfaces to tie directly to the tuner so most radios with a tune button will automatically control the tuner. The 480HX, however, reduces its power to 100w when you do this. This is a design flaw or oversite in the design of radio, not the tuner. Because of the remote capability, this tuner just happens to save the day and allow me to run full power! Great product for my 480 and a shack with multiple radios! THANK YOU MFJ.
